150km of new fibre has been laid across six Victorian communities through the state government's Connecting Victoria program, in partnership with Opticomm.
More than 2,100 premises in Clyde, Cardinia, Devon Meadows, Curlewis, Wallington and Dunolly are eligible for connection, with more than 500 already signed up.
Initial connection speeds are 1Gbps down and 400Mbps up, with trial speeds of up to 8Gbps coming in the months ahead.
Connecting Victoria is the single largest investment in mobile and broadband infrastructure ever made by an Australian state government, the release from the Premier claimed, with more than 1,300 projects statewide and more than 900 of these in regional areas.
“Whether you’re a family catching up with relatives interstate, a small business competing online or a community preparing for an emergency, reliable broadband changes lives," Minister for Government Services Ingrid Stitt said.
