ASX-listed Ventia is working with AI model maker OpenAI to explore how artificial intelligence can be applied across its operations in Australia and New Zealand.

The collaboration will focus on deploying AI in practical, high-impact uses across safety, asset management, field operations, customer service and internal operations.

Ventia operates at a national scale, supporting essential services across Australia and New Zealand with more than 35,000 people across 400 sites spanning defence, telecommunications, transport, utilities and social infrastructure.

Through the collaboration, Ventia and OpenAI will evaluate and pilot advanced AI capabilities across the enterprise. This includes providing teams with access to tools such as ChatGPT Enterprise and OpenAI’s API platform to support knowledge workers and field-based operations, with a focus on reducing the time required to move from concept to production.

Early activity is already underway, with Ventia working with OpenAI and its build partner, TomoroAI, to explore the development of AI-enabled work-winning and bid management capability, specifically targeting improvements in bid quality, turnaround times and win rates.

The company has also conducted early trials using OpenAI tools, including Codex, to rapidly build applications, including a supply partner portal, demonstrating the potential to accelerate development cycles and streamline interactions across its supply chain.

OpenAI will support Ventia’s workforce enablement initiatives, with a focus on building practical AI capability and embedding responsible use across the organisation. OpenAI engineers based in Australia will work alongside Ventia teams to explore deployment of advanced AI capabilities, including access to frontier models and development tools.

The OpenAI deal forms part of Ventia’s broader approach to building an AI ecosystem, bringing together a network of global partners to accelerate workforce enablement, increase the pace of delivery and execution, and ensure access to leading capabilities as the technology landscape evolves.

“By working with OpenAI, we’re giving our teams practical access to advanced tools that can help them work more safely and efficiently, make faster decisions and unlock new ways to improve service delivery across complex environments," Derek Osborn, Ventia's group executive for innovation and transformation, said.

“This collaboration is designed to help Ventia unlock productivity, strengthen decision-making and explore new ways to support its teams and customers," said Satya Tammareddy, OpenAI’s Go-to-Market lead for Australia and New Zealand.
