Telstra completes swimming event installations
Telstra has completed its technology installations for the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships.

The telco giant has declared its networks ready to support the increased demand for communications services at the event.

Telstra is the telecommunications partner of the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships, and will also provide online and mobile coverage of the event.

For the event Telstra has installed 15 kilometres of cabling to accommodate additional fixed line and data services; developed a permanent in-building mobile coverage network for the Rod Laver Arena; developed an IP telephony solution which will link all four event sites and approximately 330 IP handsets for use by staff during the Championships; installed over 200 new fixed line services; and Telstra will also manage video feeds for Channel 9 and BigPond TV at the event.

Phill Sporton, Telstra's managing director for network delivery during the Championships, said the company had been preparing for the event for many months and its networks are ready to support the extra demand for services.

"The network has been fully tested and Telstra is excited that many months of planning will soon take the Championships to fans across Australia and around the world," said Sporton.
