Telstra brings eSIM support to Windows 10 PCs

Telstra will provide eSIM support for compatible Windows 10 PCs.

Customers will be able to activate a Telstra mobile broadband plan through a pre-loaded Windows 10 Mobile Plans app starting from 7 March for supported PCs.

A Telstra spokesperson told CRN that there were currently no updates on whether the feature will be brought to supported mobile phones like Apple's iPhone XS and Google's Pixel 3 range. The telco currently supports eSIM functionality with the Apple Watch 3.

“In line with Telstra’s drive towards simpler customer experiences, Telstra and Microsoft are offering customers a new way to connect to Australia’s fastest mobile network,” Telstra consumer segment executive Kevin Teoh said.

“eSIM makes it possible to connect your compatible Windows 10 Modern PC to the internet, without having to go to a store or collect a SIM. It will be easier than ever before to connect on the go.”

According to Microsoft, Telstra is the seventh telco globally to support the feature.

The Mobile Plans app automatically detects a Windows PC eSIM card and connects to customers to the Telstra website where they can choose a mobile broadband plan.

The telco is also offering a 30 day trial to customers with supported PCs with 30GB free data to use in Australia until 31 December this year.

“We’re committed to providing our consumer and SMB customers with seamless connectivity solutions they would expect from a modern Windows device, which adapts perfectly to their lives and their needs,” Microsoft director of consumer and device sales Neil Gordon said.

“This Mobile Plans partnership with Telstra will allow Australian users with a compatible modern Windows PC to experience a much simpler connectivity experience to get online in Australia.”
