Australian carrier Symbio has become the first Tier 1 carrier in Singapore to achieve full Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) interconnection with all licensed Tier 1 voice carriers in the country.
The company said the transition, completed across all carrier interconnections it established after launching its Singapore voice network in 2021, moves its infrastructure from legacy signalling to modern SIP-based interconnection. Symbio said SIP interconnection delivers a more scalable, flexible and efficient network with greater call intelligence.
Symbio's wholesale IP network in Singapore enables nationwide calling and number porting, letting customers move phone numbers from legacy networks into the cloud and between providers. The company said this supports the delivery of advanced unified communications solutions.
"By becoming the first carrier to achieve full SIP interconnection with all Tier 1 voice carriers, we're creating a network that better supports our customer needs through timely, flexible and technically sophisticated voice services," said Michael Omeros, chief executive of Symbio and non-executive director of Aussie Broadband Group.
"We have been working closely with the IMDA and believe they are building a stronger foundation for the future of voice services in Singapore."
"Our focus is always on making our services simpler, more reliable and more flexible for customers,” said Jo Quinn, general manager for voice products (wholesale) at Symbio.
"This investment into our underlying carrier network in Singapore is a step change improvement that benefits carriers, service providers, and end users alike."
