Tablet PC distributor, Tegatech, has become the sub-distributor of Asus' ultra mobile PC (UMPC) and Tablet PC products.
Tegatech will have access to Asus’ ultra portable R2H and R1F - an Tablet PC, which were officially launched in globally in mid-November, through distributors, Synnex, Ingram Micro and Cellnet.
Hugo Ortega, principal at Tegatech, said he has been in talks with Asus about the products since March.
“The problem was Asus had no products allocated to Australia at the time. Then it officially launched the product in Australia two weeks ago,” he said.
The R2H has an integrated GPS capability, fingerprint reader, 1.3 megapixel camera, ethernet, Bluetooth keyboard and comes with an external DVD writer. The product is based on Windows XP and retails for $2199. The Asus R1F was targeted at more traditional Tablet PC users and would retail for about $4000.
Ortega said the Asus products rounded out Tegatech’s range of Microsoft Origami-approved devices. The company also carries models from Samsung, TabletKiosk and RaonDigital.
“I know there won’t be any conflicts amongst the ultra mobile products, because they each address different market segments. The R2H includes a GPS and is specifically targeted at the tourism industry and logistics area. The Origami is highly focused on the educations space,” said Ortega.
He said Tegatech was interested in recruiting new resellers to drive sales of the Asus range.
Ortega said Tegatech would run a road show between January and February 2007 across Australian and New Zealand.
