Southern Cross Computer Systems has scored a five-year, multi-million dollar deal with the Victorian Government's education department for the provision of managed services.
The contract is both a renewal and extension of services Southern Cross currently provides.
The CRN Fast50 alumus and managed services provider has been supplying Citrix and VMware core infrastructure services to the department of education and early childhood development (DEECD) for the past two-to-three years.
Under the new contract, Southern Cross will continue to be responsible for the DEECD’s core infrastructure as well as key Microsoft technology support services.
Southern Cross won the contact from rival managed services provider Empired IT, in a lengthy and competitive process which saw it go up against 20 rivals, including the likes of Datacom and Fujitsu.
Southern Cross managing director Mark Kalmus said government deals make up around 25 percent of the company’s sales.
He told CRN that Southern Cross would support around 100 virtual servers and several web portals under the deal.
He declined to comment on the value of the contract. CRN understands the deal is worth $10 million over the five year period.
Southern Cross will supply the DEECD with Microsoft technologies including SharePoint, CRM, Exchange, SQL, AD (active directory), DNS (domain name servers), TMG (threat management gateway) and Web Farm.
The company is also involved with the Victorian Government under its eServices panel, and has similarly just renewed a managed services contract with the Public Records Office of Victoria for two years. It had been providing backend managed services and support there for two years.
