Software supplier behind Anzac Bridge, Cross City Tunnel snapped up

Jobpac, the Sydney software firm whose applications have been used to build Sydney’s Cross City Tunnel anfd Anzac Bridge, has been acquired by USA rival Viewpoint Construction Software.

The combined entity will be the largest construction accounting and project management software provider in Australia and New Zealand, said Viewpoint president Jim Paulson – and there is an opportunity for channel partners.

Both Viewpoint and Jobpac develop, sell, service and support their own software, and Viewpoint’s Paulson told CRN the company was interested in talking to local IT providers that run a professional services arm.

The combined business will lay claim to 45 of the top 100 engineering and construction firms in Australia as customers, Paulson claimed.

Jobpac’s collaboration platform has also been used to help coordinate work on “anchor” projects in the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA), while Viewpoint customers have been involved in multiple highway upgrades through Queensland, upgrades to the Brisbane International Airport, Queensland Children’s Hospital and Sydney Airport Northern Precinct redevelopment.

There are more than 6,000 users of Viewpoint’s software in Australia and New Zealand, Paulson said, ranging from construction to oil and gas, mining and engineering.

The company has nearly 800 workers around the world, with more than 50 employees in Australia, taking into account Jobpac. Viewpoint will keep its Melbourne office, but will move its headquarters in Australia and New Zealand to Jobpac’s Sydney office. Jobpac chief executive officer Ian Desbrow will become Viewpoint managing director in Australia and New Zealand.

Viewpoint has a data centre in Australia running its project collaboration platform, and also offers accounting and project management tools.
