Hardware authentication security key vendor Yubico has appointed Tim Murphy as its new Asia-Pacific regional manager and M.Tech Australia as a distribution partner

Yubico manufacturers the hardware authentication device YubiKey, which supports one-time passwords, public-key encryption and authentication, and the Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) protocol.

The appointments are part of an effort to expand the company’s presence in Australia, as it looks to launch its upcoming YubiKey 5 series security keys.

“It’s an exciting time for hardware authentication security keys across all industries, and we look forward to addressing the changing security challenges that Australian businesses and employees face on a daily basis,” Murphy said.

“Working with our chosen distribution partner, M.Tech Australia, we are already seeing demand from organisations in Australia and are well positioned to help these businesses replace weak password-based credentials with strong hardware-based authentication.”

Murphy joined Yubico in June, coming over from Netscout subsidiary Arbor Networks, where he served as its ANZ country manager from 2016. Previous stints include security vendors Tufin, RSA and Earthwave, as well as a few years at Cisco and Symantec in various sales roles.

“Yubico continues to create authentication technologies that not only work for today’s authentication scenarios, but into tomorrow’s, helping to bridge the gap from existing solutions to a future of passwordless login,” Murphy said.

“We are launching the YubiKey 5 series into the Australian market this week, which delivers the same ease of use, high level of security, and durable construction expected from a YubiKey, with added authentication and communication interface functionality.”
