The Western Australian government has announced a $1.15 million rebate programme to help small businesses purchase and install CCTV security systems, with applications opening on Monday, 19 October.
The WA Small Business Resilience Program - CCTV Rebate provides matched funding of up to $2,000 per property, covering half the cost of purchasing and installing new or upgraded CCTV systems for eligible businesses.
The programme is aimed at deterring theft, vandalism, break-ins and staff assaults, and requires all newly installed systems to be registered on WA Police's Cam-Map WA database of CCTV systems across the state.
Eligible businesses can apply through the Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) website.
"Crime and antisocial behaviour can have a significant impact on local businesses, not only on their bottom line, but on owner and staff wellbeing," said Jackie Jarvis, small business minister.
"We're helping WA small businesses invest in better security and create safer workplaces for their staff and customers."
Jarvis said the rebate was open to small retail businesses in both metropolitan and regional communities across WA.
Earlier this year, the Brisbane organising committee for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games invited EOIs from technology partners for the provision of CCTV systems to support the operation of the venues and precincts of the Games.
Last year, an Adelaide-suburbs council sought to engage a contractor to manage all services relating to the delivery of mobile CCTV or video surveillance systems.
