Canberra-based IT infrastructure provider Oobe has been picked to replace the server operating systems on board the Royal Australian Navy's ships and land-based supporting infrastructure.
The deal is worth $1.6 million and is slated to run until 30 June 2017.
Dubbed Project Jackstay, the Department of Defence wants to address components of its Fleet Information Environment (FIE) network reaching end-of-life.
Defence will replace both hardware and operating systems for the FIE.
The FIE is currently based on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP, which reached end-of-life in 2015 and 2014, respectively.
Microsoft, Fujitsu and Dell have also been engaged for the project.
Oobe has previously designed the network for other government agencies, including Defence, particularly for Windows 10 and Windows Server 2012.
Last year, Oobe wrapped up a two-year project to migrate the Australian Defence College's entire workload from a legacy system to Google Apps.
The Canberra-based company recently opened its first location outside the territory in Queensland.
