Reseller lands finger-lickin' WiFi deal with KFC

Solutions integrator Emerging Systems has partnered with Aruba Networks to deploy WiFi across 190 KFC stores.

Following four weeks of testing, Emerging Systems is expected to implement Aruba Networks' ClearPass and AirWave solutions to KFC's 410 franchise stores in Australia.

Customers get 15 free minutes and have to provide their email address for extended sessions, Aruba marketing director Roy Brady said.

KFC can send customers tailored offers and other promotional material. The implementation also allows KFC to play video and banner ads on a KFC-branded flash page and skin.

KFC enterprise systems manager Saqib Hussnain said: "The solution has been tailor made and we don't require any additional cabling or wiring because the access points run over the network. The technology allows us to monitor usage and report on the uptake of Wi-Fi in our stores."

Over four weeks, KFC recorded a total of 45,000 sessions, totalling 1.7 million minutes of web-browsing and 139GB of transferred data.

Aruba's Brady said Emerging Systems was unable to comment due to signing a non-disclosure agreement.

Emerging Systems has 25 staff located in Sydney and Melbourne offices and is a gold partner of Aruba Networks.
