Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.5 released with improved support for AI workloads

Red Hat unveiled the latest version of its enterprise Linux platform today, adding new security features and enhanced support for artificial intelligence workloads.

The release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.5 introduced several key improvements, including stronger confidential computing capabilities to protect sensitive AI data and automated security configurations to help organisations reduce complexity.

"Complexity in enterprise IT, from the applications that we build to the environments in which they run, isn't going away," Gunnar Hellekson, general manager of Red Hat Enterprise Linux said.

"Rather, it's growing exponentially, especially with the dynamics of new technologies like AI," Hellekson added.

Recent IDC research showed that standardising on Red Hat's platform helped infrastructure teams spend 26 per cent more time on business innovation by reducing manual tasks and simplifying deployments.

The operating system new version added several automation tools including a system role for sudo commands, allowing organisations to implement consistent security configurations across their environments.

It also introduced pre-hardened image configurations to help companies build security into development processes earlier.

"Companies validated that the platform served to simplify management while reducing overall system complexity," said Greg Macatee, research manager at IDC.

For developers, the release included full support for Podman 5.0, enabling faster multi-platform container builds.

It also updated key development tools with new versions of node.js, PostgreSQL vectorisation capabilities, and Java Development Kit 17 becoming the new default.

The platform added new file management features to its web console, reducing the need for command-line operations in routine tasks like browsing files and changing permissions.

Red Hat also announced the availability of Satellite 6.16; this is an updated management tool that now supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 installations while improving efficiency through selective content synchronisation.
