QLD's Ipswich City Council partners with Cognizant for Workday HR modernisation

Queensland's Ipswich City Council has partnered with Cognizant to implement Workday Human Capital Management as part of a five-year technology transformation programme.

The collaboration aims to modernise people systems for the Queensland council, which manages services for more than 256,000 residents across one of Australia's fastest-growing regions.

Cognizant will implement Workday HCM to replace the council's existing HR and payroll systems.

The implementation aims to consolidate people processes into a single system, reducing manual data entry across HR and payroll functions.

Workday's cloud-based infrastructure claims to offer enhanced data security with built-in resilience and regulatory compliance designed for public sector requirements.

Close to 1,500 administrative, technical, operational and professional staff who deliver services including waste collection, parks and open spaces, community centres and libraries are employed by the council.

"This transformation in payroll and HR processes will help drive better value for money, more integrated service delivery and an improved customer experience," Sonia Cooper, chief executive of ICC said.

Cooper emphasised the importance of keeping council operations aligned with community expectations and ensuring continued efficient service delivery.

"It is crucial that the council's operations keep pace with community expectations and are fit for purpose to ensure we can continue to deliver services as efficiently as possible," she said.

The collaboration represents Workday Australia's first local council customer in Queensland, building on the company's public sector expertise globally.

Jo-Anne Ruhl, vice president and managing director of Workday Australia and New Zealand, said the deal represents the company's first local council customer in Queensland.

"This exciting collaboration marks Workday Australia's first local council customer in Queensland, Australia," Ruhl said.

The cloud-based system can be scaled to accommodate future staffing changes.

The implementation is part of the council's broader technology upgrade programme.
