Optus has opened the doors to its Innovation Hub in Sydney, aimed at helping the telco collaborate with local startups and customers on new solutions for SMBs.
The centre, located in the Sydney Startup Hub, serves as an extension to Optus SMB's Yes Business platform by connecting Optus' corporate partners, customers and other startups located in the same startup hub with each other to develop new solutions for small businesses.
Optus SMB vice president Matt Ball said the hub was designed to transform the telco's business proposition for SMBs, as well as to enable collaboration with its partners.
"We seek, through this partnership, to transform the Optus small business proposition. We want our customers to help develop the products of the future for small business. We want our customers to tell us how we can improve," said Ball.
"The connectivity in this very lab is significant, we have opened up our network APIs, which basically plugs you into the mainline of the Optus network for small businesses to be able to develop...code, develop applications, and develop digital solutions for small business customers."
Optus said the space would also host a slate of upcoming events such as hackathons, innovation challenges and workshops.
The centre was opened by NSW minister for innovation Matt Kean, and is also backed by Macquarie University.
“It’s incredibly important that we unlock more opportunities for startups to collaborate and innovate with big business, and this is a perfect example of just that,” Kean said.
“These innovative companies are carving out the next generation of jobs and businesses for our country, and I’m pleased to see some of our best and brightest innovators working together to create a prosperous future for our country.”
