Ever since Microsoft released a version of Microsoft Office for the iPhone last year there's been an expectation that an iPad version would be coming sooner rather than later. But that hope was squashed when former CEO Steve Ballmer said that the new version of Office for Windows would ship first.
Now buzz has picked up about the product again, triggered by long-time Microsoft observer Mary Jo Foley, who reports signs that the iPad version, codenamed "Miramar", might make it to market ahead of Microsoft's touch-first version of Office, codenamed "Gemini".
Despite the rumours, Microsoft hasn't made an announcement about this.
There are already dozens of options to choose from for opening and editing Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. However, none of these are able to open every Microsoft Office file and faithfully reproduce every single element of complex formatting easily. For example, we've yet to find a tool that can handle embedded tables perfectly every time.
