NEC has won a contract to implement and host the federal government IT system for managing apprenticeships around the country.
The multi-year deal will see NEC replace the current system with a Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Oracle Process platform on 1 July 2016.
The value of the contract was not disclosed, though iTnews reports the project is expected to cost $20 million.
The Australian Apprenticeships Management System (AAMS) platform will replace paper for many processes to do with registration, lodging new claims and delivering payments.
The system will interface with Centrelink and the Australian Taxation Office, stated NEC director of sales Chris Korte. It will also support a “vast” network of federal, state and territory government systems including training.gov.au, the Australian Business Register and Australia Post.
“This is a critical and incredibly complex solution that will need to interface seamlessly with some of the largest government IT systems in Australia,” he stated.
NEC estimates up to 29,000 contracts will be created using the system, which will also process up to 135,000 transactions each month. NEC’s platform will be a central store for contracts and will allow apprenticeship network providers to engage with apprentices and employers and track their progress.
The contract follows a $134 million win for NEC with Transport NSW, NEC is also a key contractor on an $800 million-dollar Lockheed Martin contract with the Department of Defence.
