Receivers have been appointed to Sydney-headquartered point-of-sale distributor Mecari Pty Ltd, which was formerly known as POS POS.
Mecari is a distributor of POS systems and has received various awards from the likes of Toshiba, Datalogic, Motorola Solutions and Epson.
The company's head office is in Sydney, with locations in Western Australia, Victoria, Queensland and New Zealand.
Mark Pearce and Michael Dullaway from Pearce & Heers Insolvency Accountants were appointed as receivers and managers on 5 January. A spokesperson from Pearce & Heers confirmed the firm's appointment but would not comment further.
Meanwhile, two companies, Balatador Pty Ltd and Danielli Pty Ltd, commenced winding-up actions against Mecari on 8 January. A hearing in the Supreme Court in Queensland is scheduled for 9 February.
An email to a Mecari address resulted in this automatic reply: "Receivers and Managers have been appointed to Mecari Pty Ltd. The Receivers and Managers are currently considering the sale of some or all of the business and/or assets."
Calls to the Mecari Australian offices went to voicemail. CRN also contacted Mecari chief executive officer Daniel Danielli who declined to comment at the time of publication.
In July 2014, POS POS rebranded to Mecari Digital Distribution Services and sold a "significant equity stake" to Minerva Solutions.
Mecari's origins date back to Roshtech Technology in 1990, according to a video published by the company. The first office opened in Brisbane in 1996 before expanding to other states.
Along the way came numerous plaudits, including: Distributor Excellence award from Toshiba in 2012, IBM’s Distributor Excellence Award Asia Pacifc in 2011, Datalogic’s Australian Distributor of the Year award for mobile and scanning in 2011, Motorola Solutions Australasian Mobility Distributor of the Year award in 2011, and Epson’s Distributor of the Year award in 2009.
