MongoDB appoints Richard Scott as SVP of APJ

MongoDB has appointed Richard Scott as senior vice president, Asia Pacific and Japan, as the database company ramps up its regional investment amid what it says is growing enterprise demand to move AI workloads from pilot into production.

Scott, who joins from Salesforce where he held the same APJ senior vice president role, is based in Sydney and will lead MongoDB's regional strategy across the Asia Pacific and Japan region.

He brings more than 25 years of enterprise technology experience, having also held senior leadership roles at Informatica, Microsoft, SAP and IBM.

His appointment comes as MongoDB expands its regional footprint; the company opened a new office in Kuala Lumpur in May and will open a Tokyo office in September, with increased investment in Japan planned for coming months.

Engineering teams in India and Australia are also growing, and in June, MongoDB for Academia announced a programme to upskill two million developers in India by 2030.

MongoDB said Scott will focus on accelerating growth and adoption across APJ, where the company counts more than 1,200 employees and thousands of customers. The company's platform is used by regional enterprise names including Woolworths, Cathay Pacific, Samsung and Canva.

"Richard joins at a pivotal moment. Our customers across the region - from Sydney to Seoul to Mumbai - are moving past experimenting with AI, and are looking to us to help them run AI in production," said Ryan Mac Ban, chief revenue officer at MongoDB.

"His 25 years building enterprise businesses in Asia Pacific, combined with his strategic vision and customer-first mindset, gives him the experience and credibility to accelerate that transition."

Scott said the data layer would be the defining technology challenge for organisations in the AI era.

"MongoDB is already loved by developers and trusted by market leaders but we are still only at the beginning of a massive shift in how technology is built and used," he said.

"My focus is to align our partners, community, and regional teams, to help customers modernise and deploy AI applications with speed and confidence."
