Microsoft Surface channel chief exits after three months
Fred Viet

Surface commercial channel lead Fred Viet has left Microsoft Australia after just three months.

He will move back to France for personal reasons, according to a Microsoft statement.

Viet will be replaced by Microsoft director of mobile device sales Brett Murray on 1 July. Murray joined Microsoft in 2010 as a senior portfolio manager before moving into his current position in 2014.

“Brett has always demonstrated a strong, thorough partner approach to his business across both consumer and business channels and is looking forward to this new opportunity,” a Microsoft spokesperson said.

Viet served 11 years at Lenovo before jumping to Microsoft. He had been Lenovo ANZ channel sales manager since 2011 before being promoted to channel sales director in July last year.

He was picked as Microsoft Australia’s first Surface commercial channel lead in February to oversee the enterprise channel for Surface devices. Viet was replaced at Lenovo by Margrith Appleby, who was previously HP's director of commercial channel sales for printing and personal systems.

Microsoft’s Surface channel was opened up to another 150 Australian partners in January to join the existing 14 Authorised Device Resellers.
