Microsoft partner's Fortescue project nominated for iAward

Microsoft partner Ignia has been announced as a finalist at the 2015 National iAwards for its mobile business intelligence solutions rollout for iron-ore giant Fortescue Metals Group.

In late 2013, Ignia - number 22 in the 2014 CRN Fast50 - rolled out reporting tools to the Cloudbreak mine in Western Australia, giving supervisors a near real-time view of how operations are tracking against production plans on Windows tablets.

“The ability to measure the adherence to plan during the shift has improved [how] Fortescue works,” said Fortescue IT business manager Nick Owen.

“Previously, it was very difficult to measure against targets during a shift, with the information not visible until the next day. Giving supervisors accessibility to the data in near real time helps them make informed decisions, quickly engage with mine control and have a better understanding of available options.”

As a result of the project, Fortescue was able to reap $30 million in annual cost savings.

The iAwards honour Australian companies for technologically innovative projects. The winners will be announced at a Gala Dinner in August.
