Macworld enters Apple resale market

Well-known Apple publication Macworld Australia has entered the reseller market by partnering with a site selling refurbished Apple hardware.

Described as a "marketplace", the site allowing Apple users to buy and sell hardware has been setup in conjunction with Swedish company mResell.

The site allows Apple users to sell hardware which is refurbished and sold via the mResell site. Repairs and refurbishment is done by iExpert.

According to an article on the Macworld site announcing the launch, the mResell program was launched "in response to Apple’s iOS trade-in program avoiding Australia, despite the environmental and financial benefits for Apple customers."

The site promises products will be shipped within 48 hours and "tracked to your door", as well as refunds if products are returned within two weeks. The site also states that warranties are offered "on all our products."

The site also allows users to register to be alerted when mResell has stock of their preferred product.

According to the site, sellers enter the serial number of their product, answer questions about the condition of the product, and are then given a quote. Sellers post their product to iExperts, and receive payment once the product has been checked.

As well as listing hardware for sale, the site includes reviews, blogs, news, features, tips and app guides from Macworld Australia.

The Macworld site describes mResell as a "safe, easy and secure marketplace for Australian and New Zealand Apple device owners to trade-in, or purchase, second-hand Mac and iOS products."

mResell was created in 2012, and launched in Australia earlier this year. An announcement at the time stated that the service would "give new and current Australian Apple users a ‘one-stop shop’ where they can sell, upgrade or change their items with a service level and warranty normally only offered on new merchandise."

The announcement states mResell have drop-off and pick-up services through iExperts in the Sydney CBD, Bondi Junction Westfield, Penrith Westfield and Melbourne CBD.

The site lists Piotr Fernandez as the founder of mResell. The site is part of the mTorget.se group, which operates in Sweden, Poland and Spain, according to a press release. According to the mResell site, Fernandez is also behind Apple Premium Reseller company Digital Inn.
