The Creating a Safe Workplace e-learning demonstration, developed by Tradelink (Crane Distribution Limited), is aimed at up-skilling existing mature age workers at supervisory levels and developing their management skills in creating and maintaining a safe working environment.
Tradelink said the demonstration will assist with consistent reporting of safety hazards and incidents as well as responsiveness to safety issues. Funded by the national training system’s e-learning strategy, the Australian Flexible Learning Framework, the demonstration is expected to save Tradelink costs associated with travel, trainers and loss of productivity due to staff downtime.
Developed in partnership with First Impressions Resources and Cubic Consulting, the demonstration covers occupational health and safety legislation, policy and procedures; risk management; managing incidents and injury; emergency and procedures.
To complete the course, staff are required to complete both online and an on-the-job assessment, conducted by a qualified assessor.
The demonstration encompasses elements from the unit of competency Providing a Safe Working Environment from the Certificate IV in Retail/Frontline Management.
Although the demonstration is specific to the retail and logistics sectors, it can be used as a guide to developing an e-learning solution across a variety of industries, claimed Tradelink.
