Greg Newham, itX general manager, has welcomed the announcement, even though the company has not officially named who the new distributor will be.
Newham said the company was aware of the discussions and saw the partnership as an advantage because they would focus on the x86 server market.
“It doesn’t affect us in the least. Vendors do what vendors do and we do what we do. Sun Microsystems is trying to grow that part of the market,” said Newham.
“The more people that are talking about Sun Microsystems services the more the market is going to grow. It’s an advantage from our point of view because we are going to help increase Sun’s business,” he added.
Sam Srinivasan, director of Partner Sales at Sun Microsystems, said the company had started providing solutions based on the Intel and AMD platforms.
“In the last two years, Sun has doubled its share of the x86 segment in Australia, and a second distributor is needed to ensure it meets the needs of its customers,” he claimed.
itX will be the only distributor that carries the full range of Sun products in Australia.
