IT managers split on vendor love: survey

More than a third of IT managers described their vendor relationships as "Thelma and Louise" - best friends - in a survey conducted by managed IT services provider Applaud.

About the same number of respondents said their relationships were more akin to heiress "Paris Hilton and whoever", describing them as a "temporary alliance of mutual benefit".

Eighty-nine organisations were surveyed last month at the IT Service Management Forum Australia in Melbourne.

Applaud's managing director Ricci Danieletto said the survey revealed that close partnerships between vendors and end users were now "the clear order of the day".

The survey also found that one third of respondents planned to increase their IT budgets over the next 12 months, with a focus on data centre management, service desk infrastructure, asset and cloud management.

Within these segments, 44 percent of organisations planned to invest in systems management, 38 percent in operating systems and SOE development, and 37 percent in virtualised infrastructure.
