Chromebooks are cheap and cheerful. They're plasticky, flimsy and short on specs - but serve a purpose and they're kind of loveable, in their plucky laptop way.
Dell is set to rival the Pixel in the premium Chromebook movement. Introducing the Dell Chromebook 13: a new high-end device with improved specs and build quality.
The device is set to cost US$400 (~A$540) for the base model, with the price topping out at $700 (~A$950) if you opt for some of extra specs.
The new Dell Chromebook 13 is focusing on build quality and internal specs. The most noticeable upgrade is the material – Dell will make this Chromebook out of aluminum and magnesium alloy, instead of the bouncy plastic we're accustomed to.
It doesn't end there. There's a 1080p, 13in screen, a glass trackpad, Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a 12-hour battery life. And that's for the entry-level model.
Dell's timing couldn't be better. According to stats from NPD, the appetite for notebooks is bigger than ever, with Chromebooks “sales up 38% over 2014 and, for the first time, exceeding sales of Windows notebooks and passing the 50% market share”.
