Chinese smartphone and networking vendor Huawei has announced Huang Ji, or George Huang, as its new Australian chief executive.
Huang takes over from outgoing boss James Zhao, effective immediately. Zhao assumed the role in February 2014.
Huawei Australia said the appointment fell in line with the company's global practice of rotating senior executives throughout different countries to "enable innovation and drive performance".
Huang joined Huawei in 1996 and most recently lead the company's global human resources division. In other roles with the company, Huang led research and development centres in India and Nanjing, served as president of the consumer software product line and as well as the global device cloud business unit president.
Huang said: "The Australian market provides strong opportunities for us in the carrier and enterprise sectors. We will persist on our 4.5G and 5G journey and keep delivering innovative ICT solutions."
Huawei Australia chairman John Lord said the local board was confident Huang would drive continued success in the region.
“George will be focused on highlighting Huawei’s global 5G and IoT leadership in the local marketplace, growing the enterprise business in the mining, transport and other vertical sectors and elevating the Huawei consumer device brand,” Lord said.
