HP has re-entered the consumer tablet market with a new Android tablet.
The Slate 7 was announced during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last night. The 7in tablet runs Android 4.1 Jellybean with a ARM Cortex A9 dual-core processor.
It will sell for $US169 from April in the US. No availability details for other countries were provided.
HP also offers the Windows 8-based ElitePad tablet for business users, among other convertible products running Microsoft's new OS.
The Slate 7 is HP's first effort since departing the consumer tablet market two years ago, following the death of its much-touted WebOS-based TouchPad tablet. That tablet was pulled from the Australian market less than a week after launch.
The Slate 7 weighs 368 grams, has 3MP and VGA cameras, and the ability to "talk" to printers. It features a stainless-steel frame and comes in either grey or red on the back.
