Since 2003, the collection and recycling of HP printing supplies in Australia has been coordinated and managed by Cartridges 4 Planet Ark - a voluntary multi-vendor electronic take-back and recycling program.
Recycling services were provided by Close The Loop, a co-creator of the cartridges program.
HP was a founding member of the group, which has collected close to 10 million cartridges in total since 2003.
"We are taking steps to more closely align our recycling operations with related HP business processes," said Richard Bailey, VP and general manager, HP IPG, South Pacific.
"The launch of the HP Planet Partners Program will provide us with greater control and with better opportunities to improve the way that we do things.
"For example, by integrating supply chain processes relating to the delivery of new products and the collection of used supplies for recycling we can deliver a benefit to the environment, improve efficiency and reduce cost," he added.
The company is committed to covering the costs related to the recycling of HP branded supplies that are collected by the Cartridges 4 Planet Ark Program until August 29th, 2009, when its participation in the program ends.
HP is taking immediate steps to ensure customers enjoy a smooth transition its recycling scheme.
This includes drop-off points in 10 locations around Australia, collection boxes for commercial customers, available from 1st June.
"HP remains committed to the Cartridges 4 Planet Ark Program until the end of the 120-day notice period,"said Bailey.
"We will continue to cover the costs associated with the collection and recycling of original HP branded supplies by Cartridges 4 Planet Ark until this point and we have taken steps to ensure an immediate start to the transition."
