Hills Limited CEO exits after a year

Hills Limited chief executive Grant Logan has left the company after just one year in the role.

He will be replaced by chief operating officer and former Ingram Micro veteran David Lenz when his retirement becomes effective on 1 September.

Logan joined Hills in 2011 as chief financial officer before moving into the chief operating officer role in 2015. He took the chief executive role in March 2015 following the departure of former chief executive Ted Pretty.

Chairwoman Jennifer Hill-Ling thanked Logan for his contribution to the company’s “back to basics” program.

"The board is most grateful for Grant’s time at Hills, especially for his role in helping restructure the Hills group and most recently for providing the guiding hand in helping consolidate the business through the “back to basics” program,” said Hill-Ling.

Logan will continue with Hills as a consultant during the transition period and to assist in completing certain projects.

Lenz joined the distributor as head of sales in March 2015 after a seven-year career at Ingram Micro. His last role at Ingram was senior director and general manager of the enterprise technology business.

He was promoted to chief operating officer and head of Hills’ key building technologies division in April.

Hill-Ling said Lenz has played a significant role in implementation of the company’s future plans, and that is well positioned to focus on Hills’ “back to growth” phase.

During its 2016 financial report, Hills stated that its turnaround phase was nearly complete following several years of tough losses, and that it would soon enter its “back to growth” phase.

The company reported a $68.3 million loss for the year, although the second half provided a $700,000 profit. Revenue was also down from $428.8 million to $328.9 million.
