Altech’s national sales manager, Kevin Hartin, has quit the distributor opting for 'different' pastures in the new year.
Hartin finishes up with Altech at the end of December, allowing him a break over Christmas before starting a new path.
Hartin said he has been with the distributor for over two years and now felt it was time to move onto 'different' pastures. At this stage he said he had no certain plans, except for a “short contract to do some database work for a friend”.
“Hopefully by mid-January 2007 I will have something. Whatever I do it will still be in IT and I will still be around,” he said.
Hartin’s role at Altech caps off 20 years experience in the distribution arena, having started as employee number five at Tech Pacific in 1986.
“I was kicked out of University in 1981 for not working hard enough. I went before the board and they asked me what I wanted to do,” he said. “At the time nothing entered my mind, however I needed to get a job.”
In late 1981 Hartin ended up as a computer operator at Computer Sciences, he later moved into a sales role. He did that for a few years, before moving on to work for two different resellers.
“Back then resellers were very different from what they are today. In the 80’s you had to be an authorised dealer of a vendor before you could sell their product. Now any small guy can sell any vendor. It’s just the evolution of the channel,” he said.
