Hugo Ortega, managing director at Tegatech told CRN the distie officially signed up with Gigabyte on Monday. “We will only distribute its UMPC and MIDs products and will not be distributing Gigabyte’s components, but the hardware for the UMPC and MIDs will be available if needed,” he said.
According to Ortega, it took Tegatech three weeks of negotiation to seal the deal with Gigabyte. He said: “We approached Gigabyte because the vendor was looking for exposure for its mobile PC products. The vendor is pushing out three to four UMPC devices over the next couple of month.”
Ortega said the distributor has already been flooded with reseller requests for information about Gigabyte’s launch UMPC products - the M704 and the soon to be released Linux based M528.
“We are launching the partnership with two Gigabyte UMPC products but the vendor has a lot banked on MIDs product, based on Intel’s mobility platform. Gigabyte has several products ready for release in the near future,” said Ortega.
According to Ortega stock is expected to arrive later this month and reseller pricing is available online at Tegatech.
