Fortinet has expanded its unified endpoint platform, FortiEndpoint, with new capabilities designed to help organisations govern AI usage, prevent sensitive data exposure, and reduce endpoint risk through a consolidated toolset.

The update adds AI visibility and control, native data loss prevention (DLP), endpoint risk scoring, and FortiAI-assisted operations to FortiEndpoint.

The platform now provides centralised visibility over sanctioned and unsanctioned AI applications and agents running across endpoints, including installed apps, AI agents, and web-based tools.

Security teams can set granular guardrail policies to allow, restrict, monitor, or block applications based on compliance and data security requirements - an approach Fortinet said is aimed at surfacing shadow AI and unauthorised tool usage.

The native DLP capability automatically inspects sensitive data exchanged with AI applications and web services at the endpoint, covering personally identifiable information, intellectual property and financial data. Built-in user coaching provides real-time guidance intended to reduce risky behaviour without affecting productivity, according to the company.

FortiAI-Assist, built into the platform, lets security teams use natural language to investigate events, generate investigation summaries, identify high-risk devices, and troubleshoot issues. The feature also provides contextual policy recommendations and risk guidance.

Dynamic risk and compliance scoring continuously assesses endpoint health and posture, with Fortinet saying access to AI applications and protected resources can be adjusted in real time as risk changes - a zero-trust model the vendor positions as suited to distributed, AI-enabled work environments.

Through integration with the Fortinet Security Fabric, endpoint telemetry and risk context can feed into broader security controls across the enterprise, the company said.
