Former Symantec channel chief appears at Channel Dynamics

Symantec Australia revealed today that its director of distribution Steve Martin left the company a month ago.

The company gave no explanation for the delayed announcement, but said that it had already appointed existing Pacific channel sales director Jeff Arndt to take over Martin’s duties.

Martin told CRN that he had recently returned from a three-week break in Europe and was now providing consultancy services to Channel Dynamics while he considered his next move.

Martin said that he had left Symantec on friendly terms and that his departure was not connected to the sackings in June of several Symantec engineers in Australia as the company sought to move positions to cheaper offshore locations including India.

Asked why he left the company Martin said that he didn’t see any more options for himself in terms of career. “It was time”.

He added that expected to continue in the software side of the industry but that he was determined to pick the “right opportunity not the first opportunity”.

Craig Scroggie, vice president and managing director, Symantec, Pacific said Martin had been instrumental in building Symantec’s channel business in Australia and New Zealand during his seven years at the company.

“Steve leaves Symantec on good terms and we would like to thank him and wish him all the best for the future,” Scroggie said.
