Cloud communicationsn vendor 8x8 has hired former Oracle and Avaya figure Steve Shaw to lead its channel in Australia and New Zealand as senior manager for channel and alliances.

In his new role, Shaw will be tasked with continuing to build and manage 8x8's team of channel partners in the region and assisting them grow their unified communications and contact centre businesses.

Before joining 8x8, Shaw worked for Oracle as senior sales manager for ERP and applications, leading new business development in New South Wales. Prior to that, he worked for Avaya as sales director for enterprise and government, responsible for partner accreditation and focusing on the vendor's banking, insurance and airline customers.

“I am looking forward to using my knowledge and understanding of how to propel channel enablement to support and differentiate our channel partners, while adding significant value to our customers, and simultaneously maintaining partner profitability and rewarding performance,” said Shaw.

Last year saw 8x8 ramp up its channel push in Australia by forging a distribution deal with Tradewinds, who sources new third-party cloud brokers for 8x8 in new markets with growing demand for cloud communications solutions.

On the global front, 8x8 boosted its unified communications-as-a-service sales through its indirect channel, switching up its usual strategy of conducting the majority of its business directly. The company said it plans to grow its indirect sales up to 70 percent.

8x8 vice president for Asia-Pacific Brendan Maree said Shaw's appointment would help bolster the vendor's commitment to working with partners in Australia and New Zealand.

"We look forward to the positive impact he will have in enabling our channel partners to realise end-user customer value in using one cloud technology platform for both employee and customer communications.”
