Fastly opens in Australia, is almost open to partners

Content delivery network Fastly has opened an Australian presence.

Mark Nottingham, formerly of Akamai and a contractor to Mozilla, is the company’s local leader and has the title of senior principle engineer. He;s one of six local staff, that includes former Googler Andrew McGregor.

Nottingham and McGregor have impressive credentials: the former is a member of the internet Engineering Task Force’s (IETF’s) Architecture Board, while McGregor has chaired its CORE working group and worked on site reliability engineering at Google.

Further hiring is planned, and the company is open to working with channel players “that align with our values and business models” even if it is not actively recruiting a channel.

The Australian office is seen as a base for local and regional sales. A Fastly spokesperson told CRN the company sees Australia as “an expanding tech hub [and] an increasingly critical geography for the internet.”

We were also told an Australian presence “will enable more connectivity for companies looking to make a bigger digital impact in Australia and will benefit our existing global customers looking to serve content more effectively to the APAC region.”

The company’s office in Sydney and it has located servers in that city, plus Perth, Brisbane and Melbourne.

“With servers on both coasts, we enable our customers to provide a faster, more reliable experience for their end-users,” the spokesperson said.
