Document scanning VAR goes international

IBM business partner Scan Conversion Services (SCS) has positioned itself for international growth and appointed a general manager.

The South Australia document management services company achieved "small sales in 17 different countries", including the US, Netherlands, UK, Dubai, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan and South Africa.

It planned to grow these volumes over the next two years.

It also wanted to expand into more locations in Australia and New Zealand in the next year, managing director Richard Bates told CRN.

"At the moment we have different partners in different countries; we have [franchises] in Adelaide, Brisbane, New Zealand and South Africa, which offer branded SCS services," he said.

And the business has 100 customers in India, added Bates.

Bates said today's heavy reliance on "everything being electronic" had contributed to the company's success, as hard documents needed to be converted to electronic formats.

"There's many steps in the conversion process. We've created a system which allows customers to record when a job comes in and we've developed software that does the scanning, software that does the conversion and software to host it," he said.

SCS appointed general manager, Steven Todd to oversee its growth strategy.

"We have growth intentions, so we need to make our management stronger. We're progressing to have a Board, also," he said.

Bates said Todd would manage the group's complex production environment and assist in building systems for the growing franchise operation.

"[Todd] has extensive management experience with iconic food companies like Balfours and has a strong base in production, corporate governance and innovation," said Bates.

SCS was founded in 1996.
