Distributor winds up reseller Optic Networks over $30k debt

Fibre network reseller Optic Networks has been placed in liquidation after networking distributor Optical Solutions filed a winding-up notice over a $30,000 debt.

Liquidators Sellers Muldoon Benton were appointed on 31 August at the Melbourne-based reseller, which offered fibre-to-the-premise connections to residential commercial customers. Its website advertised network availability for a number of housing estates in Victoria and Queensland.

According to the company's report as to affairs, creditors are claiming debts totalling up to nearly $800,000.

The biggest debt is $197,000 owed to an entity called Sonte Securities. Other large debts include $175,000 to HR outsourcing firm Questco and $110,000 to distributor Madison Technology. Other claims include $87,000 from Planet ISP, $82,000 to BigAir, $42,000 to Netcom Fibre Optics and $9,600 to NextDC.

Optic Networks was part of the OpticStream group, which includes a number of other ICT and broadband companies, some which have been deregistered. Melbourne's Planet ISP is also listed as part of the group, which came under fire last year for failing to refund a customer $5,000 for over a year.

According to ASIC, OpticStream has been deregistered, and was last updated in August.

Optical Solutions and Optic Networks have been contacted for comment.
