The IT service provider was engaged over 12 months ago by the DECC to help its IT department became responsible for four diverse IT environments in many locations across the state.
George Atrash, general manager – connectivity at DiData told CRN that the Riverbed's Steelhead appliances were used to help DECC’s data network traffic and bandwidth usage and improved connectivity to and from the remote sites.
“More generally, WAN optimisation is well suited to organisations such as DECC with a geographically-dispersed enterprise, allowing staff throughout the network to access applications, data and resources effectively, to improve overall productivity, and reduce costs and bandwidth requirements.”
While the project has largely been completed, a number of additional sites have been included on top of the original project, recently.
“We are just completing the implementation of these additional sites, which should be finalised shortly,” said Atrash.
Fernando Martinez, manager of ICT Infrastructure at DECC said the original project was initiated when four organisations were merged into DECC.
Previously it was formerly known as the Department of Conservation.
DECC comprises four organisations – National Parks and Wildlife, the Environment Protection Authority, the Botanic Gardens Trust and parts of the former Department of Infrastructure Planning and Natural Resources NSW.
“The Department is responsible for managing the state’s natural resources, regulating activities to protect the environment and responding to the challenges surrounding climate change,” he said.
“When these four organisations were merged, DECC’s IT department became responsible for four diverse IT environments in many locations across the state.
“The complexity of integration and management of these prompted DECC to research and build a new IT platform.”
