Kettler has been with Dell for the last 13 years but is to retire in the New Year. His decision is in no way linked to the planned job cuts at the PC manufacturer the company said.
"This is something Kevin's been planning for some time and we're working to find a successor," the company told Reuters.
Kettler will be staying in Austin, Texas, where he has part ownership of a wine bar and is active in charity work. The company is now looking for his replacement.
Casey Jones, a vice president of marketing at Dell, also left the company earlier this month but is being retained as a consultant.
