Cisco will spend US$15 million (AU$19.7 million) over the next five years building innovation centres in Sydney and Perth, the vendor announced at the Cisco Live conference this week.
The facilities will be opened this year to make Australia the eighth place in the world for Cisco’s push to grow the market it calls the "Internet of Everything".
Partners will be able to use the centre for proof of concepts and rapid prototyping. The facility will also include space to demonstrate Internet of Everything technologies, with the focus on the agriculture, astronomy and resources sectors.
One of the Cisco hubs will be in the labs of Sirca, a not-for-profit technology research hub for financial markets which has more than 600 commercial clients.
Sirca is located in the historic The Rocks area in Sydney. More than 1,000 Cisco engineers are located nearby in that city.
Cisco's initial partners utilising the centres will be Sirca, Curtin University and Woodside Energy.
Cisco recently announced it would provide an "Internet of Everything playbook" for partners wanting to capitalise on the IoE opportunity.
