Chimei helps Digital DNA over 'orphaned monitors'

In February, Digital DNA told CRN it had been left stranded after one of Chimei's Australian distributors disappeared, and left resellers stranded with the brand's warranty.

David Cuthill, owner of Digital DNA, said, as a reseller, he just passes on a manufacturer's warranties -- like "everyone else".

"This is the first instance of a Chimei CMV Monitor we have sold that no longer has a warranty provider associated with it," he said.

"Our concern is that we have a few ticking time bombs out there."

After CRN published the article on the situation, Cuthill was contacted by Chimei.

He said after a "deafening silence and several emails" the vendor has come good.

"Chimei, seemingly through an entity called Nexgen Mediatech Inc are going to pick up the warranty cost," said Cuthhill.

"The warranty will be fulfilled through Thomas Electronics ESG P/L - only after you get a RMA number from Nexgen Mediatech.

 "I am not sure if this is a one-off or an ongoing procedure."

 Cuthill said if resellers are having problems with Chimei monitors, contact Bessie Chiu at bessie_chiu@mail.nextgen.com.tw .

"Tell her your story and who you bought [the monitors] from," he said.

"She will send you (I hope) a Nexgen RMA form.

"She then contacts Thomas Electronics to get a RMA number off them and once she has that she will email you back the RMA number and where to send the monitor(s)."

Cuthill said resellers will need to pick up the freight cost to Thomas Electronics and Nexgen will pick up the freight back to you.

 "Frankly I am pleasantly gobsmacked as Chimei have responded (eventually) the way they have," he said.

 "It is not often you get a good outcome like this.

"At least it indicates to me as a reseller that Chimei have a pretty solid level of commitment to Australia."

Cuthill said his Chimei monitors were no orphaned from a warranty perspective.
