A Perth engineering firm has settled a case of unlicensed use of Autodesk software for $65,000.
The unnamed firm had been using the software since March 2012, but vendor group BSA The Software Alliance was tipped off about the licence shortfall.
As well as paying damages, the business will buy genuine licenses, the BSA stated in a media release.
The engineering industry has accounted for nearly 34 percent of settlements this year - with IT, advertising, media and sales and distribution some of the other industries in which settlements have occurred.
In August, a Queensland business was penalised $17,500 for unlicensed use of Autodesk AutoCAD and in June the BSA announced a shed company paid $100,000 for illegitimate Autodesk AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
BSA Australia chair Clayton Noble said: “We urge every Australian business, large or small, to conduct regular checks of its software licenses and deployments, and implement a sound Software Asset Management (SAM) practice."
