While Carbonite Australia initially plans to sell the product directly through its online site, the announcement offers future opportunities for resellers to bring the product to the SMB space.
Peter Cameron, managing director Carbonite Australia, said the company will actively recruit resellers as demand for Carbonite grows.
“We’re very much looking initially at going direct … before pushing out through channel, but ultimately we’ll involve the channel as much as we can further down the track,” he said.
Priced to appeal to end-users and SMBs, the Carbonite product offers businesses an automated online backup service designed to prevent irretrievable business-critical data loss.
The service differs from offsite data archival services, acting as an always-on remote data mirror of a licensed computer. Files are automatically encrypted, compressed and transferred to Carbonite’s US-based co-located data centres.
Floyd Bradley, international vice president, Carbonite Inc said: “The Australian market represents a tremendous opportunity in the Asia Pacific region and we look forward to working with Avalanche to expand Carbonite’s presence in Australia.”
A SMB version with reduced license costs is under development.
