Software vendor BMC has assigned a group of partners -- including IT services firm Accenture, storage vendor EMC and security specialist Symantec -- to help it deliver its six-month-old business service management strategy.
Systems-management vendors have been trying to move from offering point products for specific problems to offering a management product portfolio that gives companies a more complete view of their systems and business processes.
BMC wants to help companies tie their IT efforts tighter to business strategies and processes. BMC's Remedy workflow engine gives customers a view of their IT infrastructure aimed at improving the users' understanding of how their technology operates.
Accenture will work with BMC to eliminate gaps in predictive operations. EMC plans to deliver dynamic storage provisioning including automated controls with BMC by this time next year. Symantec will work with BMC on transaction security.
Together, the vendors want to deliver a full suite of management and security capabilities.
At least one US commentator has claimed that BMC is giving the point products added visibility and a workflow engine. If customers can quickly understand where a problem is, they can pass it on to the right person within their organisation.
