The Australian Government Solicitor (AGS) is seeking information from vendors about AI tools that may supplement AGS’ existing available research and legal tools and provide opportunities to improve productivity across legal practice workflows.
The AGS is a group within the Attorney-General’s Department (AGD) and is the Australian Government’s central legal service provider. AGS provides a full range of legal services to government.
Possible use cases outlined by the AGS cover four categories: legal service delivery (drafting, summarising, research); business operation reporting, planning and tracking tools; client services and business development; and smart search.
Use cases under the legal service delivery category includes summarising legal documents, identifying inconsistencies across evidence and validating documents against legislative instruments/government policies.
Business operation reporting comprises of Style Guide enforcement, capacity work allocation and generating rotation rosters and tracking activity and trends (e.g. graduate programs or pro bono placements).
Client services and business development includes drafting capability statements for bid responses; summarising bid requirements; client briefing automation; and identifying emerging legal trends.
Smart search covers named entity recognition, autoindexing and visualisation of text-based data/network graphs/heatmaps.
In addition to exploring standard generative AI capabilities across these use cases, AGS is also interested in understanding how emerging agentic AI systems, those capable of autonomous decision-making, multi-step task execution, and dynamic interaction across tools or environments, can be applied to these or related use cases.
Respondents are encouraged to highlight any solutions that incorporate agentic AI features, such as task orchestration, goal-driven workflows, or adaptive reasoning, particularly where these capabilities enhance or extend the value of traditional generative AI.
The tender closes on 2 December 2025 at 5:00 pm ACT Local Time.
Last month, the AGS released a tender for the provision of off-site print services.
