Atlassian is hiking prices on almost everything this week

Atlassian is bumping up prices for most of its products on 3 October, no matter where they’re hosted.

The price rise affect’s Atlassian’s most popular software products, including Jira Software, Confluence and Bitbucket. Existing customers will see their costs rise by roughly 15 percent for most products, but new customers will be hit hardest, with some licenses increasing by nearly 180 percent.

Atlassian typically raises prices every few years. The last significant change came in October 2018 when all server and cloud products were raised by 15 to 25 percent. This time around, Atlassian said the price increase “allows us to continue to invest in R&D and accelerate our cloud products and platform into the future as we build ahead of your needs.”

The Aussie software darling divvied up the price changes by whether customers are hosting in the cloud, on-premises or in a data centre. Prices typically increase exponentially with the number of seats.

Cloud

Prices for all new and existing cloud licenses will increase by at least 15 percent with the exception of Atlassian Access, Jira Software Premium, Confluence Premium and Atlassian-owned cloud apps like Portfolio for Jira, Team Calendars for Confluence and Confluence Questions.

Specifically, the prices on the following will be raised: Jira Software, Confluence, Jira Service Desk, Jira Core and Bitbucket.

New customers will have to cough up extra for licenses with more than 101 monthly users, or 201 annual users. For example, Jira Software will still cost $1.50 per user for companies with 351-5000 users, but goes up to $5 per user for new licenses. The biggest increase is for new Jira Software customers with between 4751 and 5000 seats, which goes up from $90,750 annually to $253,500.

Server

All new and existing server licenses will cost more, as well as the price of upgrading existing licenses for more users. The price for Fisheye and Crucible will stay the same. Academic institutions will also pay more, but their 50 percent discount on licenses still applies.

Data centre

All new and existing data centre licenses will cost more. Atlassian only offered a price comparison for Jira Software licenses, which cost $15,000 for existing users and $20,400 for new users at the 500-seat tier. All other prices will be the same for new and existing licenses.

Atlassian is also raising the prices for some of its enterprise services, including Technical Account Management, Premier Support and the Enterprise Success Package. The price of Priority Support will remain the same.

The company offered a different yet still canned response for these changes: “These price adjustments will allow us to sustainably maintain the skilled team of specialists we have on staff, and continue to build value from their in-depth knowledge.”
