ASG Group appoints Capgemini's Mike Duke to lead Queensland business

ASG Group has appointed Mike Duke as its general manager for Queensland, replacing Stephen Kovacs, who left in late May.

Duke comes over from Capgemini, where he was director for energy and utilities in Queensland since 2015. Kovacs meanwhile will take a sabbatical, according to LinkedIn.

“In addition to Mike’s impressive management experience, he also has a deep understanding of partnering with large, blue-chip clients to deliver solutions that drive real business benefits,” ASG chief executive Dean Langenbach said.

He added that Duke’s strong client relationships in the region and experience in infrastructure and consulting will be a real asset to the IT service provider’s expanded offerings, following ASG’s acquisition of SMS Management and Technology last year.

Duke also held similar roles prior to his stint at Capgemini, working as Queensland general manager for CSC Australia (now DXC Australia), Logica (now part of CGI), and for BHP’s information technology division.

“Many of the Queensland IT providers don’t offer services across the entire technology lifecycle,” Duke said.

“I am excited to join an organisation with a broadened range of solutions, from strategy and advisory to implementation and ongoing support.

“I was also keen to join a company where I have the ability to be flexible and agile to meet the demands of the local market.”

In January this year, ASG landed a $16.5 million contract to migrate Queensland water utility Unitywater to the Microsoft Azure public cloud, which also includes ongoing management of the infrastructure and applications.

The company also snagged a couple of major contracts, including an $11 million deal with the Australian National Audit Office, an $84 million contract with Airservices Australia and a cloud hosting contract with Victoria's Department of Justice and Regulation.
