Apple extends AusPost partnership to iPhone

Apple has extended its mail-in-repair service with Australia Post to include the iPhone.

Apple has confirmed the iPhone repair service but had not responded to inquiries about when the service was added.

CRN understands that until recently customers could drop off their broken iPods, iPod accessories and computer peripherals to Australia Post outlets as part of the service and then have their repaired item posted back to them.

Now Apple has extended the service to the iPhone, which could see Apple service centres missing out on revenue from iPhone repairs.

iPhone customers visiting Apple's website for support are given options of contacting their carrier, an Apple retail store, the Apple helpdesk by phone, or the "Online Service",

An Apple service centre employee who preferred to remain anonymous wondered why Apple had excluded iPhones from the servicing contract.

"Not allowing us to do the repairs doesn't make any sense," the employee said.

To access the service, consumers can log on to the Apple website to establish whether their item is under warranty.

"After answering a series of questions, the customer is prompted to print a Post Returns label, which includes instructions to take the item to the nearest post office," explained an article in the Australia Post online magazine Priority.
