Apple dual-screen apps incoming

Dual-screen Apple applications are on their way thanks to a tool created by video distribution platform Brightcove, allowing iOS developers to easily make double-screen apps for Apple products.

Brightcove's "App Cloud Dual-Screen Solution for Apple TV" lets developers display synchronised content on an iPhone or iPad at the same time as an HDTV connected to an Apple TV, reports AppleInsider.

The service will allow applications to control the content over Apple's AirPlay standard.

iDevice users will be able to, for example, select a movie on their iPad and play it on their TV, will using the iPad for other browsing.

The technology potentially allows for iPad-controlled big screen gaming and live TV quizzes.

Apple currently does not allow third-party apps to be developed for Apple TV.

Brightcove's developer tool will mean users can bypass that problem and get apps on the big screen controlled by the iPad or iPhone.

The new Dual-Screen App Solution is found in the App Cloud software development kit and is available to the open-source community.
